Option 2 is a big questionmark: Can I take the drives out and put them in a new NAS? Will they be recognised and useable? Option 1 is getting increasingly interesting as I notice more software and hardware not working and I am strongly against destroying and throwing away hardware or software which works perfectly, just because it is (only) a few years old!
